You who attentive read th' historic page,
And trace your Kings through each succeeding age,
How some by arms immortal glory gain'd,
And others wholesome laws in peace ordain'd,

THE ISSUE OF A DEBATE.
In the long struggle of a warm debate,
Where reason baffles all the tricks of state;
Where wit checks folly, falsehood truth opposes;
In vain, North wins the field by counting noses.
Of shameful purchase of abandon'd vice!
Whoever buys, the people pay the price.
GALLOWAY AND MINDEN; OR HEADS AND TAILS.
Their heads old Galloway and Minden join;
They write, but can't produce one decent line.
Ask you why such united wisdom fails?
Their heads, alas! are nothing else but tails.
ON THE KING COMMANDING AN OPERA.
The man in manhood maim'd he's pleas'd to hear,
But his maim'd subjects cries ne'er reach his ear.
ON THE SAME SUBJECT.
He who at home the dance bids Vestris lead,
Makes war abroad, and his best subjects bleed.
If right I prophecy, a change will come,
They'll dance abroad while we make war at home.
THE FATTIES.
We like a fat coachman, our horses to steady;
We like a fat landlord, whose ale's always ready;
We like a fat bawd, to procure us diversion--
A fat King and fat Minister is our aversion.
